disneyworld! and a prayer request
hi friends!
wow, we never updated after our last post. we are so happy to share that Lewis’ scans were tumor-free, YAY! lewis won’t have to get his next MRI for SIX months - february!! it is a little hard to fathom. he has been getting full, sedated MRIs every three months since he was 10 months old - 3 years of that! crazy to think about it.
other great news, we were so very lucky for lewis to receive his wish from make-a-wish! lewis has been watching mickey mouse clubhouse when he gets his growth hormone shot every week and was absolutely delighted to go to disneyworld & meet him in person!
a week before we were supposed to leave, lewis got covid! fortunately, we were all able to fly out no problem. we flew out on a non-wish flight with alaska, but they found out lewis was a wish kid and they gave him a toy airplane, gave him a tour of the cockpit, let him speak on the intercom, and wished him a happy wish trip 3x during the flight for all the passengers to hear - they were amazing!!
on our first flight, we flew to our cousin’s wedding in virginia! their wedding was on lewis’ birthday & he got to be their ringbearer, he loved being out on their dance floor & it was great to be with family. we also got in a really horrible car accident with our family a couple of days later, but amazingly everyone was able to walk away with only bruises - wow! lots of thanks to Jesus for all of that! we still went to the hospital, so lewis liked riding in the ambulance for that. we were hoping we could finally avoid the hospital on this trip, but maybe next time.
the week after we flew straight to florida and got to stay at this amazing village called give kids the world, a resort for only families on their wish trip! it’s an incredible place. we had a blast eating their delicious food, exploring all the activities and attractions, staying in our own little bungalow, & eating waffle cones with only sprinkles (as lewis requested). lewis got to decorate his own star that went on the ceiling of the castle of miracles in the jericho galaxy. it was so magical!
the resort also gave us passes to visit sesame street land & disneyworld! lewis LOVED meeting all of his favorite friends in real life. he truly lost his mind the first time he saw mickey. we had three days at disney and were lucky to meet up with family & friends while we were there too. the wish pass even let us skip the lines, so lewis got to meet all the characters every day. it was a blast!
unfortunately, we were there right before hurricane milton hit orlando, but everyone took care of us & we were able to fly out on the last flight to Portland! it was a little more stressful leaving than i would have thought, but we were just happy to be home. it was just another way in which jesus continues to take care of us & watch over us, just like he did last year during lewis’ surgery (& honestly every day since then).
it was such a special trip with amazing memories that we will remember for a lifetime! and we are really praying that lewis will remember this special trip. it was truly incredible for lewis to receive such special treatment from basically everyone everywhere during his week in florida.
he is such a tough guy that takes the most difficult situations with stride! it is inspiring & also heartbreaking to see how brave he is. it was really moving to see his courage be recognized by so many, but most importantly mickey!! (everyone was crying when he told mickey his good news & why he got to fly to florida to see him.) we are so so grateful to make-a-wish and give kids the world for making our special trip happen!
we also have some prayer requests: for insurance coverage & an upcoming surgery.
our insurance has reversed its coverage for the current growth hormone medication that lewis has been on this year. this one is a weekly injection that he has been responding great too & growing well! they want him to move to a new med that would be a daily shot. the daily shot would be a lot more difficult & painful to administer. we are doing our third & final appeal for them to change their decision, but things are not looking optimistic at this point.
also, on november 5th, lewis is scheduled to have an eye straightening surgery. prayers that the surgery is successful & doesn’t need any revisions, and that lewis does well with sedation & recovery. and if you have faith for it, we also wanted to ask you to join us in praying even that the correction improves his vision to normal 20/20 with full peripheral vision and that he wouldn’t have to do his daily eye patch anymore. the doctor says improvement to vision is possible but not guaranteed, so we just want to pray that god would use this surgery to restore full vision back to his eyes. thank you for your prayers! we are so ready for him to be done with surgery. our prayer is that this will hopefully be the last one he will ever need to have!
we have been meaning to update you since so much has been going on & we have felt so covered by prayers & god’s grace. lots of emotions all over the place. we are grateful for what the past few weeks & months have brought us. mostly, we are all missing disneyworld haha! sending love & grace to all of you reading, thank you for your support!! xo
